The purpose of drama therapy is to encourage emotional growth, resilience and wellbeing. When used with children and young people, storytelling, imaginative improvisation and performance will help them to explore their feelings, connect with others and problem-solve difficult situations. It's natural for children and young people to explore their feelings and learn through play.
A critical part of healthy child development is imaginative play. When children and young people are exploring pretend scenarios in play, they are learning important lessons about real life. It then builds on this natural capacity for imaginative play to help children and young people process their feelings and experiences.
